Christians Must Change The Way We Think
|
|
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.' - Romans 12:2
By changing the way we think we are transformed into a new person. The scriptures often say a new “creature.” When we change the way we think – we no longer desire to do the things we used to do. We no longer desire to do the things others around us do. Instead, we want to do the things God wants us to do. We want to please God!
One of the main reasons that people are so judgmental towards Christians is because many Christians are still trapped in the follies and amusements of the world. They do not talk differently. They do not act differently. They participate in the same events. Go to the same movies. And, talk the same way as their unsaved friends. In today's world, it is difficult to tell the difference between a Christian and non-Christian.
If all Christians would “change the way we think” we would live differently. We would not watch the same movies. We would act differently. And, we would treat others with more respect. We would not waste our time with foolish events when there are so many who need salvation. By living like the unsaved, Christians are being hypocrites. Often times we are preaching at others while we ourselves do the exact same thing or worse.
If we would not participate in the same non-productive events and amusements as the world around us does... Christ would be glorified! We need to stop preaching at others and start living lives that honor God.
When our minds are renewed with God's Word and we change the way we think, we will want to change the way we spend our time and focus on the things that will please and honor God.
The best way to change the way we think is to allow God to speak to us everyday. God speaks to us through His Word. So, read a section from God's Word daily. Before you know it, God will be at work in your heart and you will soon change the way you think. Now, instead of wasting time on foolishness you will want to do things that you know will please God.
Once you change the way you think, you will learn just how much God loves you. Imagine the creator of the universe wanting to spend time with YOU! It would be amazing just thinking about your favorite movie star wanting to spend time with you. But I am not talking about a stupid movie star. No! I am talking about the King of Kings, the creator of everything who wants to spend time with YOU, one on one, like two close friends. WOW!
Like any good friend, you should want to spend time with Him. Get into His Word and see what He is telling you. What better way than directly hear from Him. Again, this can be done by reading a Daily Devotion or doing a Bible Study. The good thing about God is that you can share everything with Him. He won't gossip or hurt you. In fact, God desires for us to share the concerns and daily desires of our lives with Him. He truly cares and wants to help. He is a friend we can always trust who loves us more than we can even imagine.
Get into God's Word! Study the Daily Devotion. Go the extra mile and do a Bible Study. And certainly get your "Daily Promise of God." Don't cheat yourself out of the greatest joy... Jesus - [The Fountain of Life] !
Please tell me... Is anything more important than pleasing God?
